Maki-e Pearls from Japan. These are South Sea Tahitian Pearls with 24K gold paint overlay and abalone shell inlay. This style is call Maki-e, a traditional Japanese decorating technique from the Edo period. Each pearl is decorated by hand using a combination of Urushi lacquer, gold paint and abalone shell. These pearls are 11.3mm X 9.2mm
