While for many of you, white is white, in the pearl world many pearls are known for their specific hue of white.
White South Sea Pearls are known for their soft satiny white hue. This is a result of a thicker nacre that allows. more light to enter into the interior of the pearl.
Akoya Pearls have a shiny sharp surface. A lot of Akoya Pearls undergo a process called pinking. This is an accepted treatment for Akoyas. Akoya Pearls that are white will have a rose overtone. It started in Japan as a preferred coloring for Japanese women.
