Baby Oysters Grow Up to Young Adults
We have been following the development of the pearl growing oysters from conception to their producing and nurturing years in the last couple of
Blogs. I want you to be able to understand the complicated and very specific culturing of these beautiful saltwater oysters.
After 4 months in protective mesh bags that are attached to long lines, the mesh bags are removed. then after another 6-9 months the CTNs (center turn knot-used to hold the young oysters) will be harvested. At this point the oysters are cleaned, drilled and placed onto "chaplets". After another 6 months, the oysters are cleaned again and sorted into sizes that would be good for implanting or non-implantation. In the next six months the oysters large enough will be seeded and those that are too small will be put back to grow another year.
